Motivation, What is motivation? well, motivation is ultimately what influences us to do or not to do something, or simply put; our ‘motive’ There are two forms of motivation; intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Let’s talk about intrinsic motivation; Intrinsic motivation is the influences of the reasons that are personal to us, for example; wanting to be fit and healthy for long fulfilling life or to have a body that you’re happy to take your T-shirt off at the beach. Perhaps a reason to exercise is knowing how good it will be for your headspace and your mental well-being. These are the most important reasons and the most consistent forms of motivation that we require on a day-to-day basis. Extrinsic motivation or as I like to refer to it as, inspiration is all the things we observe and take in that inspire our motives. For example; celebrity bodies, motivational quotes or motivational speeches. These can be very inspiring but it’s imperative to remember that our intrinsic motivation is the most important so always remind yourself of the reasons why you’re doing it in the first place. Allow the extrinsic stimulus to top up your motivation only when it’s needed on the day the intrinsic motivation needs a help in hand
Training splits carry significant importance for a few reasons. Ensuring each body part gets the required workload to see adaptions and progress. Splits also allow for serious active rest, this means what we trained yesterday will get to rest today even though we are wisely using the time to hit another group of muscles. Splitting our training wisely also means we have realistic opportunities to hit all groups for a second time in the same week making for rapid gains, progress and statistical improvements. For example, if we trained all our ‘pushing muscles’ today like our chest and shoulder regions along with the secondary muscles like the triceps then tomorrow when we rest them, we can still train our ‘pulling muscles’ which in theory are fresh and are ready to work. Our pulling muscles are the opposing muscles to yesterday’s push day, upper, mid and lower back and secondarily our biceps.
